I have only been here once and it was for a birthday party in the back room. I knew going into it that this place was known for their cocktails (thanks to yelp). The cocktails I tried were all tasty and strong. Most cocktails run about $10, if you don't visit during their happy hour. The service was really good. Drinks were replenished in a timely manner. What I really liked was the back room. The felt/satin wallpaper is a real eye catcher. Parking appeared to be street parking only which wasn't hard to find. On my walk in I saw a nice outdoor area that didn't look to be open yet. I'd like to sit out there next time I visit.

I came here with a few of my best STL friends I met on Elite Yelp! Shoutout. Well I was back in the area and have to see my peeps so they suggested this place. So after the first two drinks the waiter suggested for my palate and the food I'm a Yelp flunky. I don't remember what I drank after that. So much good food, drinks, I was tired as hell, etc. Luckily I cabbed it wherever or had good friends on this last trip. We had the chicken wings which were ok, the meatballs were great, a meat and cheese plate of some sort, and a flatbread which was good. The service here is phenomenal. I just wish I wasn't so jet lagged when I came so I could of embraced more and gave a better review. I can't wait to come back. Great suggesting Mrs. Erin.

The drinks here are excellent. We spent the evening on the patio. It is big and spacious and well lit. Others have complained about Mosquitos being on the patio and they were fierce last night. We saw an attempt to control them such as citronella candles. We asked for a candle near our table and bug spray and they provided both. It didn't help much. What they need are fans, on the floor but that probably would look ridiculous and be impractical. The inside is gorgeous and cozy. Beautiful red leather banquettes and dim lighting. Go up and check out the Bullock Room. It has a full bar and is also beautifully decorated. Back to the drinks...the server asked us what type of drinks we were looking for. The menu is extensive. She asked, I told her and she brought me the most delicious drink, The Gin Soaked Boy. Citrusy, boozy, tart and very bright favors. My dining companion had The Penicillin. Also a very interesting drink with a smoky finish. They have a nice variety of food. We had popcorn (there are different varieties), mussels, arugula salad and a Margherita pizza. This sounds like a lot of food but these are small plates. I will definitely be back but will sit inside in the summer.

I don't get the love for this place at all. I have tried this place numerous times with friends and each time we all walk out scratching our heads. The service is minimal at best. Our most recent visit, we were the only ones sitting at the upstairs bar and we still had a hard time getting waited on. The young lady working that bar treated us as if we were an inconvenience and an interruption to her night. We drank half of our cocktails, which were made very amateurish and left. There are too many other bars in Saint Louis where you can get a professional and masterfully made cocktail, so I suggest you take a pass on Planter's House.

I came here to catch up with a friend and because I love Taste so, so much. We didn't try the food but each had two delicious cocktails. It didn't disappoint and the service was great! I love just telling the bartenders the flavors I'm into and letting them pick a drink for me. Both times the choices were great. I'm not a fan of Bourbon but they convinced me to try a Bourbon drink and it was the first one I actually enjoyed. I think I prefer Taste a little more but that's also because it's much closer to where I live and it's more familiar to me, but this is such a great addition to this area. I would love to come sit on their patio next time!

Love it. We came here after a couple of beers at the Urban Chestnut down the street. I figured it would be a big change of scenery, but this place has a pretty upbeat vibe, much more than I expected. I guess I was kind of anticipating a kind of cocktail library where people scratched their beards and pondered their next bitters. It's significantly more lively than that. Lots of people appeared to be on hand for a drink or two, at least in the bar area. I didn't see a lot of people eating. On the other hand, I was sitting at the bar with my back to everybody most of the time, conspicuously *not* people watching. For now, I was interested in trying to figure out what all those bottles were for. It really is closer to a science lab than a traditional bar in some ways. The bartender, I mean bartendress, I mean mixologist was kind of scholarly, which I would have expected, but in the end she was eager to please. I had a Cosmo Kramer, which was really just a cosmo and made me feel wimpy. It was excellent, of course, but not adventurous, so in order to not be wimpy I had the mixiologist make me whatever she wanted. It involved about 10 ingredients. God knows what. It had some kind of coconut in it and gin, otherwise I have no idea. It was delicious, though, and a lot of fun. Kind of daring to serve up something with coconut flavor, eh? I know a LOT of people that would not be happy, including my wife. I loved it, though. We also tried the flatbread, just to have a bite of something. I can't remember all the ingredients, but it had red peppers and duck gravy. It was also really really good. I'd definitely get it again. We will be back, for food and drink. Planters House is an adventure in the best way.

The place is like going back in time. A cool building with great drinks. The service was great. The flatbread needed a little salt. The only issue was the mosquitos. I had so many bites I looked like I was on an episode of Naked and Afraid. It was the worse case if bites I have ever ad sitting outside anywhere. They need a couple of standing fans to usurp the. Bugs. Otherwise a great place.

I was fortunate enough to take a cocktail class at Planter's House. We had the whole side room to ourselves. There was room for all of us to sit around the bar, while we sampled a few different cocktails and learned more about them. We smelled different alcohols and had to guess what they were, and describe the scents we were picking up. Then, we all got to put together a cocktail while keeping our seats at the bar. We learned proper stirring techniques and more. Then, we each got to pick a cocktail and make it ourselves behind the bar. Everyone was able to learn the perfect way to make their favorite craft cocktail, and we also got to take home a folder with more instructions and recipes. I think the thing I loved about it the most was that it was absolutely lacking in pretentiousness. A craft cocktail class is something that could have easily veered into "Portlandia" territory, but this never did. It was never over the top or precious, just good information for those who really enjoy learning more about creating the perfect cocktail at home. I would highly recommend this as a fun girls night activity, work team building activity, or a fun thing to do when friends or family visit town.

Picture this: A cold night, a seat at the corner bar, good friends, and a unique take on a Tom Collins. This was my first fabulous experience at Planter's House. I have yet to have more than a cheese board there so this review is just about the bar experience--which is great by the way. I have been looking awhile for that lazy Friday 9:00 drink spot and I have totally found it in Planter's. The service is chic and cool and the cocktail menu is out of my dreams. The first time I went there, my husband and I met some friends. It was a little slow so we were able to chat up our bartender who was taking special requests. I had a frozen rose and then he made me something custom. It was great. If you are looking for a place to meet for drinks before or after dinner, look no further than Planter's House.

What a perfect place to hang out on a balmy summer night!! The outdoor patio is super cute, and they make the best cocktails!! I love the traditional brick building they are in. It really adds some fun to the atmosphere. I have been here multiple times, and I'm never disappointed. My favorite menu item is the duck burger!! I never knew duck could be so delicious and juicy! Their menu is always changing, but they use the freshest ingredients in their food and cocktails. They also have the best fries! I have no idea what they put on them, some kind of magical seasoning! Overall, great place to grab food and drink with friends.

Really, really well-crafted drinks that rival the ones at my old favorite, Taste. My group ordered the Planter's Punch to split, and my friend also got a champagne orange cocktail that she'd ordered before. Even though it wasn't on the menu anymore and she couldn't remember the name, our server happily obliged. I tried a few sips of the cocktail, and it tasted exactly like taking a bite out of a fresh orange. I have no idea how the bartender did it, but I was blown away (and I am usually not that into fancy cocktails.) The punch was tasty too, and I've heard good things about their food. Overall, Planter's House is a great alternative to Taste if you're in the vicinity.

I came here for a late night cocktail the other night... I was impressed with the craft cocktail menu and of course, the end product! They have a ton of different drinks you can choose from, I was able to try the Jail Bait and Party in Boston from the cocktail list and then I also had a hotty toddy which was quite tasty as well! They have a full menu and it looked like there was an upstairs. I only sat at the bar, and it was a very cold Tuesday night so there weren't that many stragglers in there, but I can imagine this place gets pretty busy on the weekends! I look forward to coming back to try some of their food! Oh and an added bonus, their bathrooms (at least the women's) are so cute, a nice little vanity and decorative brush and comb set. The whole restaurant makes you feel like you're living quite a few decades ago!

PATIO IS INFESTED WITH MOSQUITOS!!! My biggest piece of advice to anyone who is going to attempt to enjoy a summer night out on Planter's patio: bring your bug spray! It is awful. I have bites all over me. This also happened last summer so apparently they are not doing anything about it. The service is sub-par. There is a server who has curly black hair (she is heavy set with tattoos)who is the rudest and most abrasive person I have ever encountered. I have complained to management but they won't do anything about her. This place is overrated and overpriced. I'm over it. If you really want a cool experience with wonderful cocktails, try Blood & Sand or Gamlin Whiskey House and leave this location off your list.

This place is a no-brainer. Just get off your phone/computer and go here. Head to the upstairs room to admire and stroke the awesome velvet wallpaper while enjoying badass eats and drinks. Raise a toast to your blessed lives. HUGE props to the amazing female server who hauled ass to bring me my wallet that I had left behind as I got in my car. I'm talking full-on sprint here. I was not exactly parked nearby either. If you're reading this, it was really generous act, and I hope to repay you for your efforts in the near future. That's good service.

Didn't get a chance to take any pictures. Was dying to visit this restaurant/bar after reading the amazing story in a magazine. Utterly disappointed. Noisy place, told we couldn't sit next to each other on the booth side of the table, unless we ordered dinner, after being seated in the Bullock Room. Ordered two Moscow Mules, the arugula salad and buttermilk fried quail. The drinks were fabulous. Didn't touch the quail after tasting it. It was eventually removed from our bill, but I felt bad and did not ask or complain, the waitress picked up my vibe. Ended up across the street for dinner. I would return for drinks.

Holy craft cocktail heaven. Now THIS is where you go to get a drink. I'm severely disappointed in myself that I haven't made it here sooner. I'm already looking for my next excuse to go back. Planter's House is rather discreet looking. It's right across from Moulin/PW Pizza/21stAmendement. When you first walk in there is a normal swanky dining room but they also offered up to us a different area called the Bullock Room. It's their "cocktail lounge/bar" area. We were just there for drinks and heard it was cool so we took them up on this offer and I'm glad we did. This is easily one of the coolest spots to grab a cocktail in St. Louis. You literally feel like you're in the 1920s from the decor. No spoilers, go see it for yourself. Now for the drinks... Planter's literally has around 40 different cocktails to choose from. The menu is huge and will take some time to mull over. It's divided up between types of cocktails so you have your bourbon page, your whiskey page, your martini page, annnnnd I don't remember the other one. I wish I was a cocktail expert but I'm more of a noob. I went with the Planter's Punch as recommended my the waitress. It was really good! It was one of the sweeter ones on the menu but still really strong. I tried my company's drinks, too. All of them were amazing and unique (and really strong). They serve their cocktails in old-timey glasses that look like their from your grandma's fine glassware cabinet. It adds to the whole experience. I can't wait to go back and show this place off. Next time I plan on trying the food!

Planter's House is a gem in St. Louis. My friend and I went for drinks and dinner and were not disappointed. There is a front room that has slightly more of a restaurant feel while the back room is darker and more intimate - it would be an awesome spot to bring a date. We both started with cocktails which were made with care and heavy on the booze. I switched to wine once the food started to arrive - the bartender gave a very nice pour. We had the marinated olives and a cheese plate to start and I would highly recommend both. I opted for the cioppino for my main and it was very nice - the toast that was lathered in aioli was perfect for broth dipping. I was powerless against those carbs. We passed on dessert though a quick look at the menu would suggest maybe that was a mistake. A homemade "twicks" bar? Someone please get that and report back.

A great find. I had the duckburger, potatoes, cioppino, and local microbrew. Food is a notch above usual restaurant fare. The atmosphere is great, i sat on the patio on a beautiful St Louis evening. It's convenient to the Union Station area hotels, I walked. Highly recommend it.

This is our favorite after-work happy hour spot! The cocktails are very unique and each one comes in it's own little "packaging". "An Italian Down Under" is a refreshing summer beverage. Make sure to read their menu online before going because they don't publish all their drinks on the menu. Also, the fries are an irresistible appetizer. Also, we had our work Christmas party here and I had the Ribeye entree. I've eaten a lot of amazing steaks in my life, and I will say this entree was probably one of the best I've had. It also came with brown butter spaghetti squash that was to die for. Will be returning again and again and again and again...

Every single person in our party (6 total) absolutely loved this place. The cocktails were amazing (Madame Butterfly is officially my favorite cocktail in St Louis) and the food exquisite (the risotto worked very well for the vegetarians and the Duck Burger was a hit with others). The staff (Jake was our server) was super!! Very knowledgable and above all friendly.

Came here for a friend's birthday. The duck confit was okay. They have interesting cocktails on their menu. But all of this was ruined by the mediocre service with an obligatory 22% gratuity, and then the fact that they wouldn't even split our check afterward. I feel like when you charge that high a gratuity for a large party, you should spend the time to split checks. Never going there again.

I have been a huge fan of Ted Kilgore's from back when 'Taste by Niche' was a tiny space on Sidney Street!!! With almost nothing to work with but hot plates for preparation of cuisine, he created small plates that were beyond delicious! He was also the King of Cocktails, setting a pace that maintained his stature as he moved from the small space to Taste by Niche in the Central West End and then meticulously created his own restaurant with his wonderful wife Jaimie @ Planter's House!! The wood ceilings create a fabulous warmth and there are two rooms to enjoy: the bar area in the front with tables or the back room with the velvet wallpaper and another bar. Both rooms are fabulous and the cocktails are impeccably prepared!!! The food is also meticulously crafted and every dish is delicious! There are wonderful entrées, small plates, and treats to include unique popcorns that are house-made and addictive. The duck burger is a large portion and scrumptious, and the chicken is succulent with unique flavors-it's fabulous. Planter's House is just a wonderful place for happy hour, late night cocktails, snacks or dinner and the patio is large and inviting with wrought iron tables. Whichever room you choose, it will be a great setting for your meal! Ted and Jaimie are the very gracious hosts and hostess and all of the staff provide excellent service. Once you step foot inside, you will be so comfortable and enjoy your visit so much, you may never want to leave!!!

Ah-ma-zing! A group of colleagues and I were invited to a private cocktail class with the one and only Ted Kilgore. I'm not sure if this is a regular thing they do, but they had folders with all sorts of spirits info and were very well organized so I'm assuming you can sign up for it or something. If you ever get a chance, I would highly recommend it. I used to tend bar back in college which basicaly meant, opening beer bottles, pouring drought, or making simple drinks... I.E. rum and coke or vodka and soda. At Planter's house, you won't be learning to be a bartender, but rather an expert in mixology. Disclaimer: you won't be an expert after one class... it takes years of training for that, but you might feel like one! I think we all did by the time we were done. We did everything from identifying spirits by their nose all the way up to jumping behind the bar to make out own custom creation. It was an amazing experience and I'm so thankful for getting the chance to experience this on my trip to STL.

Dear god, this place is cocktail heaven. If you like good, and I mean REALLY EFFING GOOD craft cocktails, run to Planter's House RIGHT NOW. Yes, they are $10 a pop, but two will get you good and tipsy. And let's face it, if I'm going to spend $20 drinking I'd just assume have two stellar drinks than 4-5 rail vodka cocktails. I also feel hella classy when I come here, which is a nice departure from my usual hipster haunts. Fun fact, there are two drink menus. One for the downstairs/patio and one for the super awesome upstairs room with the velvet wall paper that makes me feel like Don Drapper or Hugh Hefner or something. I highly recommend going in late and sitting at the bar. The bartenders have always been great about recommending drinks, and it's fun to sit and watch them create their drinkable masterpieces.

Truly bummed to give this spot such a poo-poo review. I waffled between 2 and 3 stars, but in the end, poor service NEVER wins. Three of my girlfriends and I hit this spot on a Friday evening to celebrate one of their first girls' night out since baby. She LOVES hand crafted cocktail, so this seemed the perfect spot. At least the drinks were good.... I'd go into detail about the drinks, but alas, it was over a month ago, and I neither remember the distinct ingredients nor do they seem to have them on menu at this time. For what it's worth, I had a Coming Up Daisy and Daiquiri Experiment or Experience.... Let's focus on the big issue - our waiter. I asked for recommendations on a drink. He asked if I liked gin. I said not really, but "What drink do you have that would sell me on it?" He didn't try. He didn't ask the bartenders (Hello! I see Mr. Kilgore standing right there!). He jumps straight to "How about tequila?" Ok..... tsk tsk tsk, Jake. I hope you were just new. It didn't really stop there. We were ordering food, and two in the party jumped straight to entrees. Another ordered some popcorn (sesame oil, ginger, and chives - very yummy) to share with the table. I ordered a meat and cheese plate and made comment to the effect that I would be sharing with the table and that would be for now. Translation: It's not late on a Friday. I don't plan on drinking my dinner. I'll be ordering something more substantial. Underlying translation: Here's a chance for you to increase my bill and get a bigger tip. He rarely came back to check on us, and by the time he did, I felt too guilty to order any food and keep the rest of my company there any longer. Luckily, Bailey's Chocolate Bar down the street was happy to offer me an entree with my martini. The meat and cheese platter was probably the least successful I've tried. The manchego, aside from a little from the negroni wash, had no flavor. The terrine was just so-so. I was bummed. I love a good meat and cheese plate.... Perhaps had I had an entree, I could have bumped this to a 3 star. My girlfriend that ordered the duck burger, which I was leaning towards, said it was delicious. I'd like to think "next time", but I don't know that I'll waste my time with so many other wonderful places on the area that don't seem to have the same staff issue.

Seriously...best night of cocktails since our first visit to Taste several years ago. Travis was an awesome server too...just let him choose your drinks, and you will be all set! We had 6 different drinks between my wife and I, and each one was better than the last.

Bummed. We sat for close to 10 minutes without being greeted. Our server finally said hello and that she "didn't see us." Whoops. Okay. Accidents happen. Maybe you are busy. I've been in the business for years so I'm beyond tolerant. Water was given and cocktails ordered. More minutes pass. We are ready to start ordering ALL the food! The menu is exciting! Water is empty and I'm watching our server leisurely chat with regulars, pet dogs and converse with staff. Another server swings by to ask if we've been helped. That was nice. I should've asked him to wait on us. I get that specialty cocktails may take a tad longer. No problem. So why isn't the server swinging around to chat about food? 25 minutes in and I'm questioning why we are here. The slow service set the tone and we walked.

The interesting, well-executed food and drink menu are the only things that saved this place from getting 1 star. They have a really cool list of specialty drinks, which is truly the draw of Planter's House. I went for a friend's birthday last night, and the staff could not have been more rude in general. My wife and I walked in, and I'm not sure if it was because we were dressed casually, if the hostess was just having a bad day, or maybe she just has resting ... cranky face, but she treated us with an annoyed sense of obligation, as if she was doing us a favor by greeting us and telling us that our party's table was full. The interaction went something like this: Me: We're just part of that large party over there... Her (matter-of-factly): That table is full. Me: Okay, wel- Her (interrupting): You can go over there and say "Hi". Me: We can go say "Hi?" Her (soullessly): There's nothing I can do. So... we go to greet our friends, and at least three (unsolicited) remarks about how rude the service was, including my wife's "What a (expletive)!" I'm not incredibly intuitive, but I sensed a trend, convincing me that I wasn't entirely crazy. At this point, about 1 minute later, a two-top and several 4-top booths opened up. So, we went back to engage in Battle 2 of this War of Friendly vs. Grumpy. Me: Hi, we noticed that the two-top over there just got up, do you think there's any way we can swoop in (smiling and friendly) Her: There are people waiting for that. Me: Oh... bummer. Okay, well what about one of those three empty booths Her: I try to save those for larger parties. Me: Okay (smirking my best "there's nothing I can do about this, but I'm never coming back here again" smirk) My wife and I ended up sitting at the bar after a couple of people got up to take the two-top, and our birthday friend came up to talk to us as we ordered our drinks. He was amazed by how rudely everyone was being treated. He said... "I should sit down before I get scolded by one of the cranky staff members!" The bartenders were not aggressively rude, but couldn't be described as friendly either. They made good drinks though! About 20 minutes later, two more friends showed up, and our party was finally deemed worthy of one of the several still-open booths. Our waitress was very friendly and was the only person that we encountered that night that I happily tipped well. I did tip the bartenders well too, but less happily. With all of that said, the food was good enough to warrant a 4-star review, had the attitude of a couple of the employees not been completely atrocious. We won't be back, but I'm sure that other people, on less busy/cranky nights have had or will have a much better experience.

Brussle sprout salad hands down one of the best things I've ever had. I would go back just for that. Drinks were good a little too fancy for my taste but I get it, that's there thing. Very friendly bartenders, and a beautiful space. We will be back for sure!!!

The wife and I had been wanting to give this place a try ever since it opened, but having a baby has really thrown a monkey wrench into our going out and trying new places. Regardless we found time to sneak away one evening somewhat recently and grab some drinks and appetizers. Unfortunately I've changed one too many diapers since we went so I can't recall exactly what we had. I know we had the cheese plate and some sort of salad. I remember really enjoying both of those, but what I remember the most about the night was the Old Fashioned cocktail in a bottle. This is an absolute steal as you would be hard pressed to order that many drinks individually for what you pay for this, but I'm not complaining. I know we both want to go back and give their full menu a try and of course try a few more of their cocktails.

The chef just changed up the duck burger recipe, and I'm afraid he messed up this time. While it's still good, it doesn't have the same effect on me when I had it with the tomato jam and mustard. The last version brought me (and everyone I told) back in many times while this one wouldn't bring me back in and I'm more inclined to explore other eateries. The cocktails are amazing. If you give Travis a flavor profile, he'll concoct something outstanding. 5 stars to Travis and the cocktails. I'll be back for drinks. BRING BACK THE PREVIOUS DUCK BURGER.

I am seriously obsessed with the Corned Goat Spaetzle The goat is delicious, the pomegranate seeds and the spaetzle and goat cheese just meld together to create the most perfect dish. Perfect for this weather. The drinks here are as amazing as everyone has mentioned in all other reviews. My favorite is the Mai Tai, its perfect. There really is nothing wrong with this place, other than it can get busy and its a bit loud at times. They also offer punch bowls in various sizes. My only advice is if you are going to drink one of those, clear your day because you are basically worthless after consuming one. In a good way of course.

This is definitely a hidden gem. It's at the corner of Mississippi & Chouteau - very easy to get to but also very easy to miss. We came in for a quick drink before dinner, and I am so glad we did. We each got the Planters Punch, and although I wish it was more, it was amazing. Next time I'll order a pitcher. It was very flavorful, tangy. The mint leaves were a nice finish. I hope to come back soon to try the food items. But definitely try the punch!

What a hidden gem. I would never have noticed this place if I didn't go looking for it, since it has a dark exterior and is in kind of in a weird location (on the corner of Chouteau and Mississippi, which is mostly residential without many other businesses immediately nearby), but that gives it almost a speakeasy vibe, which I dig. The inside is deliciously swanky with the dim lighting and victorian pattern wallpaper. My friend from NYC was super pleased, saying this was a "chic" bar she would expect to find in the city, not on a random street corner of St. Louis. Kind of a back-handed compliment, but in defense of St. Louis, I have to point out that a place like this in NYC would definitely leave a couple of students bankrupt, yet the drinks ran for only $8-11 a piece here. Not just affordable, but a down-right steal considering that we're talking about beautiful, hand-crafted cocktails. The bar was packed on a Saturday night, but we only had to wait about 10-15 minutes before snagging three spots at the bar upstairs, which was much cozier and more intimate feeling. The service was a smidgeon on the slow side, but that's to be expected, considering the labor that goes into making each drink. All of the cocktails we had were unique and delicious, ranging from light and refreshing ("Working Title") to downright boozy ("Whisky punch"). The drinks were STRONG (thank you!) and the presentation was so beautiful (whiskey in a teacup? so cute!) that we couldn't help but take photos, which lead to jealous friends demanding to know where I was after seeing them on Instagram. Can't wait to be back!

Love love love! We requested to be seated upstairs in the Bullock Room which has a super cozy intimate feel. We sat at the bar and enjoyed watching the mixologist make drinks. The bartender was quick to offer suggestions and seemed to genuinely take in interest in pleasing the customers. I love that- it really sets PH apart from other establishments. We each had two drinks: Blood & Sand made in a traditional manner true to recipe. Manhattan with BIB rye. Not too strong. Working Title very light and refreshing not overly sweet. My beginners drink! Whiskey Punch was amazing. I'm not usually a whiskey drinker, but this hit the spot for a sweet, but strong drink. Served in a punch glass. The drinks really were exceptional! We also had house made pickles and a meat and cheese plate. I wish we'd tried more, but we had dinner reservations elsewhere. Next time we will plan to dine there. Planter's House is awesome!

Best craft cocktails in St. Louis. Kilgore is an absolute genius, the atmosphere is spectacular, and if you get lucky enough to have Travis whip up a cocktail for - high five! First thing to know is, this place is breathtaking. They did an amazing job building the space out into a beautiful, elegant cocktail bar. I swear if they threw a couple of bookshelves in here I'd think I was in one of those crazy awesome libraries from a fairy tale. But with booze. That's MY fairy tale. We went on opening night, and had no trouble finding two seats at the downstairs bar. Meaning that, yes, there is an upstairs bar. More drinks are offered upstairs, but I loved the experience that seemed to be designed for visitors. Start downstairs. Have a drink or two and some food. Make your way upstairs to finish out the night. Perfect. I started with a brandy alexander from their "classics" list. This is my new favorite. My boyfriend went for their take on a Manhattan, which was delightful. Food options are limited to a few snacks and a few large plates, but what we had was excellent. We did half truffle/half hot buttered rum popcorn and the duck burger. The duck burger would have been 5 stars, but the pumpernickel bread just did not match the rest of the flavors. We both put the bread to the side and enjoyed the rest. More cocktails were ordered and soon we moved upstairs. It's a small, dark, incredibly romantic room. All of the windows are covered with heavy curtains, so it's easy to lose track of the outside world. Unless you're me, and keep peeking out every five seconds because it's snowing. :) Service was attentive. The bartenders are alums from different respected establishments like Salt and Sanctuaria, so rest assured that your drinks will be handled with care. Price-wise, you're looking at $8 for classics and $10+ for the others. While I'm a huge fan of happy hours and can get a pretty decent classic cocktail at a few other places for $6-$7, it's hard to beat the Planter's House atmosphere. There are plenty of nice places in this town to spend your hard earned money. This one should move to the top of your list.

Recently visited Planter's House in Lafayette Square with a good-sized group for drinks. They have a decent selection of wines and some local craft beers on tap. Their cocktail list is pretty good and they have some unique takes worth a try. The service was great and the ambience worked well for a yuppie night out. Their patio area is awesome for groups of 3-8. The beer & bond (1 8oz craft beer and 1 shot of bourbon) is an awesome deal and nice way to try out something new. The meat tray we had with our drinks was light and offered plenty of taste - just as it's intended. I can't say anything about the dinner; I need to go back soon to try. Overall, nice place for a date night or hanging out with friends over cocktails.

This is an interesting destination. The feel is different then most places in St. Louis in an exotic or adventurous way. The drinks are ok. I've tried probably 8 off the menus--there are different menus for different rooms. I love the ice. Special ice for special drinks specially made for them. I've only tried the sesame choice popcorn--which I love the idea of... But was so salty it was blinding. Inedible. Disappointing to say the least. The staff-- has been really disappointing. Snotty and/or aloof. Once we sat in a booth another time upstairs bar we TRIED to engage the bartenders in a almost dead bar and it was almost painful to get any information about the venue, or drinks, or ingredients out of them. Our waitress at a booth was spacey like she's just burned one and was wearing her sunglasses indoors at night? I'll probably be back but only with disclaimers to anyone I take.

Food: B- We shared a few entrees so that we could try more than 1 thing. The asparagus risotto was average, IMO I'd probably pass. The lamb spaetzle however was da' bomb & definitely recommended. I think I regret not getting the duck burger which looked awesome, so this is on my to-do list: duck burger! Atmosphere: B The space is nice & cozy w/ a bit of an old timey feel with a little booth seating, high table seating, and a bar area. Casual & laidback vibe where you don't necessarily need to get all spruced up ...but don't go there looking like a bum either b/c you might feel a tad out of place. Overall: B Great drinks, better than average food, and good vibe ....I'd recommend Planter's House.

Two visits... so far. While I don't consider myself "qualified" to truly appreciate a specialty, hand crafted cocktail... cuz that's what they have here, the drinks I did have were good. The waitress did explain some drinks and told me what she liked. Truthfully, I didn't know what some of the liquors in the drinks on the menu were. Maybe I'm not fancy enough for that. Anyway, they were good but they weren't all that cheap, around $10 a drink, which isn't too bad but they are kinda small. The second time I came, a group of 4 of us ended up getting the pitcher of Planter's Punch. I'm not a huge fan of dark liquor and it had cognac in it, but it was very good. And it was served in little glass cups- kinda like the ones Mom brings out with the punchbowl during the holidays - cute. The Bullock Room upstairs is really nice. The place is just pretty to look at. It's dimly lit and has dark drapes, and red velvet patterns on the gold wallpaper. If you listen carefully, there's big band music and jazz? (couldn't quite make it out) playing in the background. Seemed very Gatsby-esque. I'm obsessed with their green tea popcorn - it's a sweet, green drizzle over the popcorn. I highly recommend it. On my way out the last time, I noticed they have a patio. I think we'll sit there next time.

Let me start with the positives. The food is good. The duck burger was full of flavor and served with a side of hand cut perfectly seasoned fries. The meat and cheese plate needed more variety. The drinks are the best in the city... and I'm not surprised with T. Kilgore at the controls. We visited when the place was hopping. But luckily we arrived as a handful of other patrons were leaving and the hostess sat us immediately at a booth opposite the bar. Immediately I saw Ted milling about the place and knew I was in good hands. But the place lost is luster very quickly. The clientele leaned heavily on college aged kids. It was loud... really, really loud. My friend and I had to sit on the same side of the booth just to have a conversation. We were surrounded by uppity, well off kids taking selfies, cackling girls wearing too much jewelry, and an overall vibe of people that were trying to be something bigger than they are. I was disappointed. The crowd wasn't here to experience some of the most well made cocktails in town. They were here to get drunk. They were here to Instagram close-ups of their eyeliner. They we're here to make my experience miserable. I don't know how Ted does it. He seriously is the best in town at his craft and I see him walking around with menus trying not to get bumped into by any of these punks. Do they know who he is? Do they know how good they have it by being here? Watching Ted deal with this crowd is like watching Ted Williams teach tee-ball to 7 year olds. It's way under his talent level. Again the food was good, and the drinks are awesome, but the ambiance and atmosphere was not comfortable at all. I'm happy he's created a popular spot, but food & drink of this quality should be enjoyed at more of an intimate level. I felt like I was in the middle of a frat house. We headed over to Royale for a few more drinks. We were informed by a friend that there was a second room at Planter's and that we would have been more comfortable back there, out of the way. Maybe next time.

Planter's House is one of those unique places that makes you feel like when you're there you are experiencing more than just a gathering place for drinks. The style and vibe is fantastic. No TV's. Imagine that! A bar that has no TV's so that people can sit and actually have conversation and engage with each other. The staff was really helpful and knowledgeable about the selections they offered. The drinks were great. Ted Kilgore the owner came to our table to make sure we were having an enjoyable time. "All boxes get checked" on Planter's House.

It was a very cute place and the service was fast. The craft cocktails list is amazing. My disappointment was the lack of any lighter fare options. Read the menu carefully before you go. The food we ordered was all pretty good but very heavy. (Even the spaghetti squash was covered in oil.) I would probably go back for cocktails then walk down the street to eat at 1111.

I don't want my 3 star review to look like I wasn't pleased with my experience. It was fine, but not spectacular by any means. Perhaps I built this place up in my mind the wrong way and left feeling a little underwhelmed and you could argue that it was more my fault than theirs. The typical "hand crafted cocktail" might also not be my thing, so don't let that deter you, yelpers. To begin, my girlfriends and I had our first night out together in I don't even know how long and we wanted to try something hip and new. It was a Friday night and with a Cards game in town, we luckily didn't have trouble finding a booth. I started out with some kind of Swizzle, I think, but I'm looking at their online menu and it's totally different than it was a week ago. In fact, if it was this comprehensive, I probably would've enjoyed myself more. The menu just had titles of drinks on one side, but no ingredients and when I asked my server what was in a few of the drinks, he didn't really know. He had ideas, and said "I think it's...." but that wasn't very convincing. If I'm going to spend $10 on a cocktail, I'd like to enjoy it. Luckily what I got was good enough to finish, but I didn't love it. It was frustrating to not get much information out of my server who I assumed would be very versed in what was in the cocktails on the menu. I also told him what I liked and he seemed to have a hard time finding a drink that might satisfy me. I ended up ordering the Planter's punch after that and liked it, but again, I wasn't blown away. Everyone had drinks that they enjoyed, but I don't think any of us walked away saying we'd come back. I had the asparagus risotto which was really good and the portion size was plenty. Overall, like I said, the experience was good, but I wanted more. If you're into the interesting flavors of a hand crafted cocktail, it's probably a must-go place, but if you want more personal service, perhaps you should sit at the bar.

Annually, I make a trip to visit my good friends in St. Louis. They're foodies and love places with ambiance, so I knew they'd have a new restaurant or bar on the list for me to test out. This trip was no different, and boy did they find a gem! Although we only stopped in for drinks, that was enough to impress me. Planter's House was relatively busy, but the host did a great job at accommodating us right away. We hung out in the upstairs lounge, which was lovely with beautiful, velvet flocked wallpaper. They also had quite a few two-seater tables, which made me think it would be a fantastic, first date (or any date) option with the décor and romantic vibe. My friends ordered the "Working Title" and "Jack of Hearts". I had the "Captivate Me". Know that you may want to ask the bartender what you're ordering because the drink menu is rather complex with my cocktail ingredients including capelleti apertivo, chamomile liqueur, velvet falernum, lemon, and strawberries. Fantastic drink...no clue what I was ordering! While we didn't dine, we took a peak at the menu which had a small selection to include lamb, goat, and for the vegetarian, farro pilaf. Appetizers included wild mushrooms, charcuterie housemade, and popcorn. Too bad we didn't test out the double chocolate gooey butter cake. Sounds delicious! I believe they may change out the menu, so I can't guarantee they'll have the same selection. Since I can't speak to the food, I can't give this place all 5 stars, but I have no doubt this new addition to St. Louis is here to stay. So I'll add this spot to the list to have the full experience next year!

Great spot. Stopped in for cocktails. Bartender was excellent, friendly and quite knowledgable. Super drinks, great patio, look forward to trying the food next time I'm there. It's a very attractive space, lots of exposed brick and lovely dark wood. There was a good crowd in the main room on a Thursday evening, which gave it a nice energy without being cacophonous. The smaller bar in the side room had an elegant, even romantic feel to it. And the patio was filled with people having a great time, and enjoying the beautiful summer evening. Travis, our bartender, was in mid-creation when we sat down at the bar, greeted us promptly and pleasantly, and got to us as soon as he finished. The Mule Rye'd is a very tasty take on the Moscow Mule, refreshing and complex. Wife had the Papa Don't Preach, and found it to be quite good.

Planter's House took over a great space in Lafayette Square to be very shabby vintage-y. I love the space, it's very dark but you are still able to see the people around you. The noise level is very good as well, with the tall ceilings, for some reason you can still hear everything going on at your table...always a plus! I have been here 2 times now. One time was during Valentine's Day and they had a set menu and set drink pairing, which was incredibly delicious. The 2nd time I was with friends for a birthday and we tried just about everything on the menu. As a table of 6 we had the popcorn, the meat & cheese plate, the Lamb armstrong, the poutine, and the wild mushrooms for appetizers. We shared everything. The meat and cheese plate was a lot smaller than I would have liked it to be and it was not a selection of sausages it was just one larger pate piece. The popcorn was great, really easy to munch on and the flavor is very rich and yummy. The wild mushrooms were my favorite, they had so much truffle flavor - they were delicious. For my main entree I had the Green Curry Mussels and they were absolutely to die for. I basically drank the broth that the Mussels were prepared in. Everyone had different entrees and everyone cleared their plates. The duck burger looked incredible and filling... I will be back for the cocktails and more nosh!

I finally made my way to Planters on a quiet Sunday evening after work. The entire place is gorgeous! The bartender that night was friendly and knowledgable. They even had spare readers for me. I was shown the Bullock Room - it's a marvelous room. Of course, working at a restaurant myself - I arrived too late to try out the menu. I tried two of the drinks (of course I don't remember what they were) and they were both fantastic. The aromas alone were delightful. I really love the tall built-in; if only there was a library ladder!!

We went tonight, after a lovely dinner at Cafe Provencal, and though we only had a few cocktails, it was well worth it and we'll be back to both eat and drink this time. We sat upstairs at the bar. Sometimes with trendy bars like this, there's a palpable vibe in the air that a) you're not hip enough b) you're not young enough or c) both. There was none of that here. The bartenders were super nice and super talented. We even met the couple that are the owners, and they were super. The drinks (Deb and I had two each) were fantastic. We ordered off the cocktail menu and had two each. Let me tell you two things...ok three. First, they are creative drinks, not creative in the way of a drink at Applebees or TGIFridays, I mean really creative. A lot of care goes into the mix of each one, and it's fascinating to watch them mix them. Second, the drinks are strong. I am a big guy and no lightweight, but I think three of these (ok maybe four) might have been my limit. And third...they are delicious. It was the perfect way to end a perfect evening. The place is beautiful on the inside, people were friendly. It was a bit loud, but it's a bar FCS. And it's not super loud. We'll definitely be back to try the food.

Planter's House is a new old school bar with two small bars that are presented in parlour style. The drinks are handcrafted with bitters and the works and you pay for it, but it is a nice change if you are looking for low key entertainment and something unique. The upstairs bar is nice, but you are expected to check in with the hostess before sitting there. Maybe a little too formal for me, but worth checking out.

The Planter's House is a beautiful restaurant and cocktail bar. The ambiance is more casual than other St Louis cocktail joints, but the drinks will exceed your expectations. We tried several different cocktails. My favorite was the 'Get Behind the Mule', it was very gingery and spiced, but with the right amount of sweetness. I also really liked the 'Voisey of Reason', a gin based drink with egg white and lavender. It was so different than any other drink I've tasted. The 'Manhattanite' and 'Old but still in Fashion' were also good choices that were more traditional. We shared a few small plates including the garlic and truffle popcorn, sauteed mushrooms and the poutine. All were prepared wonderfully. If you get the chance, you should definitely go upstairs and have a drink in the Bullock room. We tried two drinks ('Smoking Apples' and a version of a Mai Tai). They were made by Ted Kilgore himself and probably the best cocktails I've ever had. I highly recommend the Planter's House as a cozy romantic spot for a carefully crafted cocktail. Enjoy!

I tend to drink wine or beer when I go out, but friend is a cocktail hound and chose Planter's House as our pre-Casa Loma stop. I am glad she was persistent because I had tasted two really nice drinks. I mooched a sip of Julie's Get Behind the Mule and will definitely return for one of my own sometime. I am a big ginger fan! I thoroughly enjoyed my Working Title, ordered after a sip of Laura's drink. It was light, peppy and refreshing. The menu just didn't do it for me. I"m not sure if it was my mood, but I literally did not see one thing that inspired me, so I ordered drinks only. Friends had the duck burger, the charcuterie, and the poutine. I had a few nibbles of the duck burger with duck egg on pumpernickel---it was good enough. Friends like it, describing it as a cross between breakfast and lunch flavors. Other friend liked her poutine, but after a taste, I was not sold. I want to return and try a few more cocktails---and maybe try to find something on the menu. The staff was courteous and the ambiance nice, though loud. It's worth a try....

I spent quite a few hours here the other Saturday when I was wasting time before a wedding reception. Sadly I was by myself, but I didn't feel like I was because the bartenders were an absolute delight. They were both very friendly, and helpful when discussing wedding venues for my upcoming nuptials. The house cocktails were on special for happy hour so I had quite a few. All of them were out of my comfort zone, but that is exactly why I wanted to go to a place like this. All three drinks I had were just a peach. Mixed perfectly, and had such balanced flavors. They were pretty small, but that is what I expect when I think of craft cocktails. Luckily they were all primarily different liquors, so there wasn't any "filler" in them. I didn't get any food, but the couple next to me did, and it all looked fabulous and smelled even better. I will definitely come back to enjoy their patio next time it's nice, and I am down in L Square.

Wow, what an amazing treat! The cuisine here is Creative, tastefully done, great flavors and amazing attention to detail. The Lamb Armstrong is a must, ( have never seen that on any menu before, keep an open-mind!). Delicate, reminiscent of sweet breads with house made pickles. Awesome! Mussel Stew with Green curry, rich and flavorful. Etiquette kept me from slurping up the sauce. Crazzzzy, but the chicken wings with the truffle dipping sauce was delicious. What a welcoming addition to the St. Louis cocktail scene! I love the tall ceilings, wooden bar shelves, cozy backroom nook, comfortable seating. Cocktails are $8-$10 a pop. I had the Voyses (I'm a sucker for Chamomille in cocktails) and No Body Puts Baby in a Corner (a more sophisticated version of "girly drink" as it's on the sweet side) and enjoyed both. We also had the wild mushrooms...hate to say it but Blood and Sand's version of the dish has more flavors imo. Service was great. Bartenders were friendly and knowledgeable. Definitely worth a stop for cocktail fans.

Planter's is a fantastic spot and exactly what the area needed (at least after Taste left Soulard for the CWE). Planter's brings an upscale drinking environment to one of the oldest and most famous neighborhoods in St. Louis. The atmosphere is fantastic with an incredibly knowledgeable staff that will blow you away with the quality their finely made cocktails. I suggest the house Manhattan or the old but still in fashion, but I've yet to sample a drink I didn't find delicious. I will continue to visit this fantastic spot time and time again.

We went on their 2nd day, so add one star for opening weekend jitters. We ordered a huge bowl of white truffle popcorn for $3. There was a meat and cheese plate that they had to substitute duck for the pork terrine. The bread was fresh and the manchego paired perfectly with the terrine, so it was a plus. The poutine was delicious, and I want that every day of my life. The drinks I ordered were excellent, and given that it was later in the night I can't recall their names. Chris from Kirkwood down there is way off... College kids don't drink pricey old fashioned cocktails and eat duck pâté. This place is awesome and in keeping with the upscale vibe around it like 1111 Mississippi, Vin de Set, and the places on Park Ave. The drinks are strong, pretty, and delicious. I was pleasantly surprised about the food too!

What a disappointment. I tried 2 of their main courses and both were not good. I sent the 1st item (stuffed squash) back. It was replaced with seafood stew which was so salty I could not finish it. The waitress was very nice about substituting my 1st order but never asked how I liked 2nd order. We did have appetizer which was good but just not enough bread. Some of the staff were friendly but others were a bit aloof. I won't be returning, too many other good places to try.

I would really like to give Planter's house more stars. The food is good and the drinks are great. However, every time we go in (I live in the neighborhood), the bad service smacks you in the face as soon as you walk in the door. The hostess is pretty awful. No one is in a rush to help you. The owner will make eye contact as you wait for someone to help you and then just go back to chatting with his friends. Based on its proximity, I will try again. However, I will not recommend this place until the experience catches up to the food and drink.

Vintage cocktails and an amazing dinner anyone? Holy knock your socks off, Batman! Working title is my personal favorite cocktail (with their in house earl grey liquor), yes please! Duck burger with fingerling potatoes, I never knew happiness before this place opened up. Now that I know, I'm sharing this eye opening experience with booze and food with you. Get your ass over there and have a couple drinks and just look around you. The bar and wood work in this place is magnificent. Glassware to chandeliers make it 50's esque and even more awesome. Can't say one bad thing about this place, everything is damn delicious and well thought out. I already want to go back!

The setting is warm, cozy and intimate. The duck burger is amazing and I'm craving it right now as I write this review. The cocktails I had were well made, interesting and simply delicious. The service was good--not over bearing but still attentive. Cant wait to go back.

Been here probably half a dozen times-all with fine service, delicious finely curated drinks, and delicious food. I will say that one time, at the end of the day, I got a piece of chocolate cake that was a little dry. I opted to eat it despite their insistence to take it back or drop it from the bill, so I am not going to ding their score. It's a calming, relaxing place that I feel will only get more crowded as word gets out - but they deserve the business!

Maybe it is because my wife ONLY likes nice things, but I feel like every review I give is a 5 star. Nothing new to report with Planter's House. This is without-a-doubt a Yelp 5 star joint. We arrived around 7:30 with no reservation (not sure if they take em) and the ladies were seated right away while the gentlemen parked the car. The place was super busy and that is why I am not docking points for the somewhat slow service we received (only at the beginning). Once we got the ball rolling it was an excellent evening topped off with a visit to The Bullock Room (the exquisite upstairs cocktail area). Looking back I wish we would have done the evening different, but I see numerous visits to Planter's House in my future. I feel like the best way to enjoy this place is to go with only 2-4 people and order up numerous plates to share. Their small plates are plentiful (for the price) and their entrées are perfectly executed. We couldn't help but start with their fancy "hot butternut rum" and "white truffle garlic" popcorn. It was a perfect blend of sweet and salty, but never fear, you can choose whichever flavor you like. Next up was delicious Poutine with the most savory-mouthwatering gravy and charming fingerling potatoes (this is a must). We also shared the chicken wings which were great, but do not need any fancy adjectives...it's a chicken wing. I was interested in the Wild Mushroom small plate and the Pear Éclair, but those items shall be enjoyed on another visit...I'm sure they're scrumptious! We shared the Lamb Loin and Mussels for dinner which were both out of this world and deserve notoriety. The real magic happens in the bar. What they lack in choices for entrées is a moot point when you look at the cocktails that are offered. I highly recommend setting up some time in The Bullock Room either before or after your dinner reservation. They have small plates if you are just in for a cocktail and a snack, but really, it's all about the booze. We had Ted Kilgore mixing up some of the best drinks I have ever tasted. Whether you are looking for an aperitif, digestif, glass of wine, summer cocktail, or a warm whiskey...Ted has got you covered. He acts as a psychologist, scientist, and artist all at the same. Not sure what kind of specialty cocktail you want? Just talk to him about what you typically drink, and he will bring you exactly what you're craving (Psychology). Then he mixes up your favorite flavors in beakers and measuring cups; stirring and shaking ingredients at the same time (Science). Finally, he creates art by pouring your cocktail into a fancy glass topping it off with a garnish (when needed). The small intimate setting of The Bullock Room makes you feel as if you are in a 5 star hotel bar in New York City; it's a dark room with lovely wallpaper and a few curtain covered windows filled with small tables and a bar that seats about 12 - 15 people. If you are looking for a classic evening out, filled with wonderful food and drinks, in one of the most historic areas in Saint Louis, then Planter's House is the place for you. You certainly get what you pay for here so be forewarned that prices are a little steep, but I've certainly paid more for a product that doesn't stack up. Kilgore has done it again!

I was visiting St. Louis from Chicago and came here for dinner and drinks one Saturday evening on the recommendation of a bartender from the restaurant I ate at the evening before. I'm so happy I did. Earlier that day, after having eaten at some of St. Louis' more famous establishments (Sweetie Pie's, for example), I was starting to become rather unenthused with the culinary scene. "The food here will never compare to that in Chicago," I declared, not realizing I'd be eating my words a few hours later. At Planter's House I had what has to be one of the best meals I've ever had in my life. From drinks to dessert, everything was a home run. For my first drink I had the Manhattanite. I'm a big fan of Manhattans and this was a nice twist on the classic. You could really taste the chocolate bitters, which added a nice depth to the drink, and a flaming orange peel gave the whole thing a nice caramel-ly undertone. I ordered the braised lamb loin for my entree, which was fantastic. The inside was cooked to a perfect medium, while the outside had this lovely caramelized crust. I'm always a little nervous to order lamb in a restaurant, but this was the best lamb I've ever had. It came with fingerling potatoes which had a delightful, bright mustard-like flavor. I'd kill for some of them right now. The real highlight though, were the donuts I ordered for dessert. I know, right...how good can donuts at a fancy restaurant be? I'm telling you, they were the BEST donuts I have ever had in my life. One came filled with a pineapple filling while the other one was filled with molasses creme. Worlds better than anything I've ever had in a mom and pop donut shop or one of those hipster donut joints. If you see these on the menu, do not hesitate!!! My only regret is that I now love this restaurant and it is located a six-hour train ride from home. Planter's House: come to Chicago, I beg you!

We've been waiting for this place to open over a year. Ted Kilgore is the best bartender in St. Louis, hands down. We had the steak, pate, and desert. Everything was phenomenal. My favorite drink was the "get behind the mule." Highly recommended.

The lamb was amazing and gluten free. Gotta have a specialty cocktail while you are there. They dont take reservations but we didnt have to wait long. Only drawback is, it was kind of noisy due to accousticks

I had the marinated olives and a Ship of Fools drink. Both were 10/10....this place was part of a truly magical night of discovering St. Louis with a friend, and I'll remember it always. There are times in life where you feel like you are in a movie (or at least a classy alcohol commercial), and being at Planter's House was definitely one of those times.

Don't believe the hype. The drink I got was delicious. That being said, my mixed drink was the only good thing about the whole meal. The food was meh- not terrible or anything, but very bland. The worst part was the service. The servers had attitudes and were pompous. One member of our party was given the wrong drink, then when he asked a server to correct it, she acted as if she doubted the other server could have messed up. All in all a very mediocre experience. The space is cool, but it isn't worth the prices or taking attitude from your server.

Let me start this review by saying I created this profile specifically to write this review. I've visited this establishment twice (kind of, I'll get to that). First time i visited was very soon after their grand opening. I live in Lafayette Square and was very excited for the new spot to open up. I went in with a couple friends and took seats at the bar. We started with a couple beers on tap and then all had a different cocktail from their list. The staff was fantastic and really knowledgable. We really enjoyed ourselves. Then there was the second visit. A couple of friends and myself noticed the lights on their patio and could hear people enjoying the new patio from a block away so we decided to go have a cocktail and enjoy the beautiful weather. We walked into the main entrance at about 12:10am. We were immediately pushed out of the front door by a very intoxicated staff member who said nothing but "NO NO NO NO NO WERE CLOSED" as she backed us out the door. We all looked at eachother in shock that we were rushed out of there. A nice explanation that they had already closed would have done fine. All of this while there still were people enjoying cocktails on the patio. As we walked across the street to decide on another neighborhood bar to give our business to, Ted (the owner) came out and apologized to us. Which I very much appreciated but couldn't believe he let that girl talk to us and treat us the way she did, as he was standing behind the bar when it happened. Needless to say I probably won't go back, which is a shame because the patio looked fantastic. There are plenty of other places in the neighborhood that will be happy to have my business.

My drink was ok, the waiter was good, but the meat and cheese plate was disgusting. I've seen numerous meat and cheese plates in my life, but have never seen a "meat substance" as nasty as this. I wouldn't have touched it with a 10 foot pole, but my husband tried it and confirmed my suspicions that it was bad. Dare I say......it looked and smelled exactly like wet dog food. If you are looking for a good, creative drink, head to Taste.

As much as I love the cocktails dreamed up by Ted at Taste, I couldn't find the same appreciation here. I enjoy balanced, perplexing, and boozy cocktails. Here, I was disappointed to find that the 4 drinks I tried between the group were all painfully sweet. Like, burn your mouth and go brush your teeth sweet. For classics like Old Fashioneds and the like, this level of saccharine is totally uncalled for. Hopefully this was just the fluke of the bartender that evening.

This is a great cocktail bar with above average food. For a really good experience go to the back bar and if is not too busy, ask them to make you something off menu. The burger and chicken wings are exceptional. The Poutine is really good too. Overall, it is just a really neat place to go have a drink and a bite to eat.

I was very excited to try this place. The menu looked great so I reserved a table. However, when we arrived, they couldn't find my reservation, but luckily had a table ready. I regret they had that table. Our cocktails were pretty tasty, but I quickly realized, mine was just an overpriced whiskey sour. The best part of the meal was the app- the brussel sprout salad. Other than that, was a major let down. We ordered the veal special and the cioppino . The cioppino was under seasoned broth with 3 mussels, 3 clams and 3 shrimp. I'm 5ft,105 lbs & this was just a cruel tease. The veal was a little better in taste w/ a larger portion, but not a memorable meal (like I've already forgotten the taste and it wasn't because of the cocktail). In the end, this place has great intentions, but clearly missed the mark. Just because you can write fancy words like cocoa ragout and cognac cream sauce does not a chef make. So, if they ever lose your reservation, take it as a sign and find another place.

Talk about amazing! Beautiful, and I mean beautiful, surroundings! The cocktail list is out of this world! My favorite is their list of house favorite classic cocktails, some of which you've never heard of but they're all delicious (so far haha). Haven't got around to ordering food but who has the time when there's so many drinks to try! There are two rooms with two different menus, both have their own feel and identities. The owners are two of the nicest people you will ever meet and their passion for food and drinks shines through! Definitely a gem and a must try for everyone!

Great patio space. Went with a large group from work and had no problem getting a table. $2 off cocktails until 7pm. They cocktails were just OK. We had a few appetizers which were ok as well. I'll be back to enjoy the outdoor space.

I really wanted to love this place, but our bartender (the only female bartender working on 1/17) just didn't make it the best experience. We were hoping to do lots of fun cocktails, and the menu definitely looked interesting, but I asked for something different with vodka, and she seemed unwilling or unable to make anything that wasn't on the menu. A friend in our group asked for a martini, and she couldn't make that?! She just pushed the drink menu at him and said that's what they had. Very weird for a place that advertises as a cocktail bar. I will have to go back and give it another try (and not sit near the female bartender). Because it is a cool space with a nice vibe... although it is loud in there, so don't go looking for an intimate night. But I didn't even know there was a bar upstairs (we got lucky to find a seat at the bar when we walked in, so grabbed it)... we might have to try that the next time.
